Every year, more are added and there are now over a hundred: the MarBoeien of Recreatieschap Marrekrite in the Frisian waters. Most of these yellow and blue buoys can be found in Waterland van Friesland, always in a special spot on the water.

When you moor here, you have the place all to yourself for a while. Leave the hustle and bustle behind and enjoy the peace and space around you. A place that has already inspired many poets.

Mooring at a MarBoei

Mooring at a MarBoei is easy. You can recognize it by its distinctive blue and yellow colours and the large eye at the top.

Simply guide your mooring line through the eye, let out the line to the desired length and secure it to a bollard or cleat.

Mooring at a MarBoei is often easier than mooring at a jetty. You only need to secure one line. The MarBoei is made of soft plastic, so it is no problem if your boat gently touches the buoy while mooring or unmooring.

Marrekrite Recreation Authority

The Marrekrite Recreation Board in Friesland manages and develops recreational areas on the water. The organisation maintains around 34 kilometres of free mooring places in the middle of nature, known as Marrekrite moorings.

Watersports enthusiasts can moor their boats here free of charge and stay overnight. Since 2013, Marrekrite has also managed the MarBoeien on the Frisian Lakes. There are now almost 100 of these special mooring buoys.

Mooring at a Marrekrite jetty or a MarBoei is a unique way to experience the peace of the Frisian waters. Enjoy the sound of gently lapping water and rustling reeds, and with a little luck, a beautiful sunrise or sunset.

Sail the MarBoeien Poetry Route

Follow the route from one poetic mooring spot to the next and moor at the nine MarBoeien in Waterland van Friesland. Along the way, nine poems by different (Frisian) poets will inspire you.

Take your time to enjoy the views and experience the peace and space of the water. The boating route is almost 100 kilometres long and takes you to many special places across the Frisian lakes.
