Gaastmeer (or Gaastmar as we say in Friesland) is a very rural area offering plenty of opportunities to escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. Step away while enjoying a sailing, canoeing or boating trip, savouring the countryside all around Gaastmeer, which includes the Groote Gaastmeer, Heegermeer and Fluessen lakes. This village is the birthplace of a Frisian poet called Jan Jelles Hof, and actually consists of two parts: Kleine (small) Gaastmeer and Grote (large) Gaastmeer. For cycling and hiking fans, Gaastmeer is the ideal starting point for very interesting trips.

    Close to the B&B in Gaastmeer, there are two fun ferries for cyclists and hikers, taking you across the Yntemasloot and the Grons. So you don't have to go the long way round. After crossing, it's time to start your cycling or hiking trip. We really recommend the Gaastmeer - it Heidenskip - Workum cycling route.
