One of the coolest forms of water sports in Friesland is kite surfing! In Friesland, seven official kitesurfing spots have been designated where you can kitesurf. These are all located in the IJsselmeer. Great, because learning to kitesurf is a lot more pleasant in sweet water than in salt water. One of the best places for beginners is the town of Workum. Here the water is shallow and the conditions are pleasant. There are various water sports schools where you can go for kite surfing lessons. I definitely recommend taking a whole lesson, because with a half you don't learn to stand on a board. All in all, it's a great experience and definitely something that should be on your bucket list!
