LF Frisian Coast and Middelzee weekend route

Yet to make plans for the weekend? Why not set off with your touring bike or e-bike and spend the weekend cycling this 145-kilometre route along the Frisian coast and through the Middelzee area.

This varied cycling route leads through the Wadden Sea UNESCO World Heritage Site and along the banks of the former Middelzee estuary, now the green heart of Friesland.

The route will take you across an old sea bed, through ancient mound villages, along the banks of Frisian waterways and lakes and through countryside known for its meadow birds. More than enough natural beauty and cultural heritage to delight both nature lovers and culture lovers!

You can start cycling the route at any junction. Park at one of the Tourist Transfer Points (TOP).

This route is one of the long-distance weekend routes mapped by Landelijk Fietsplatform, a national organisation that promotes recreational cycling. Part of it runs along the LF Coastal Route. Stay at a charming B&B or stop at a campsite along the way.  

You may be interested to know that this route is also part of the Klooster Claercamppad pilgrimage trail.

Oldehove

Opening soon

The Oldehove has been standing since 1529 and is leans even more than the Tower of Pisa! You can admire it from the inside as well as outside. The elevator, built in 2011, takes you to the first floor, and from there you will have to conquer the spiral staircase to the roof.

Sint Vituskerk Feinsum

Lauta state

Redbadtsjerke Jorwert

Broerekerk (church)

The Broerekerk was built in the 13th century as a monastery church of the Friars Minor. The monastery was abandoned and demolished in 1580. The three-aisled church without a tower is a ruin as a result of a fire that took place on 8 May 1980.

City Park and Marina De Prinsentuin
