Blokslootpolder Nature Reserve

Broek

The Blokslootpolder nature reserve is near Sneekermeer Lake.

The northern part of the Blokslootpolder nature reserve borders on three bodies of water (Langstaartenpoel Lake, the Gudsekop waterway and Goëngarijpsterpoelen Lake) that run parallel to Sneekermeer Lake.    The northern part of the reserve is managed by Staatsbosbeheer, the national forestry organisation that oversees the Netherlands’ green heritage. There is a grassy path around the polder that is about 4 kilometres long. While walking the path you can enjoy the view of the water and see the many birds that live on the reclaimed land. There is also a path that runs through the reserve. (This path is closed to the public from 1 March to 1 July.)    About halfway along the walk, near Goëngarijpsterpoelen Lake, there is a small viewing platform, where you can expect to see birds such as sedge warblers, common snipe and great egrets.
