The Jopie Huisman Museum is fully dedicated to the life and work of the Frisian self taught master painter Jopie Huisman. In 1986 the Jopie Huisman Museum Foundation was established with the mission to present his art and share the philosophy of the artist.

It is notable that the often realistic works of Jopie Huisman appealed from the very beginning not only to traditional art lovers but also to a wide audience who are touched by the deeper philosophical message. Themes such as love for nature compassion and appreciation of everyday life form the human perspective that runs through his diverse body of work. Since opening the museum has welcomed more than 2 million visitors.
