A museum about the history of Frisian shipping, but also stories about the city of Sneek. There is also an exciting children's museum.

The Frisian Maritime Museum in Sneek takes you on a journey through four centuries of Frisian shipping from the 17th to the 21st century. With ship models, paintings and special objects you discover the stories of Frisian coastal shipping, inland shipping with skûtsjes, fishing on the former Zuiderzee and ferry services. Sailing sports also get a lot of attention from classic yachts to modern racing boats that still take part in events such as the Sneekweek.

In the winter section everything is about transport over ice. The original prizes of the Elfstedentocht and an elegant ice boat are real highlights.

The museum also shows the rich history of Sneek with attention to the iconic Water Gate.

For children there is a large interactive area where they can play and explore. Step aboard a sailing boat, build a raft, experiment with pulleys or test your strength by pulling a skûtsje. There are also fun treasure hunts for all ages from Pirates and Mermaids and the Viking Tour to Treasure Hunting and the Sticker Tour for the youngest visitors.
