The Greonterp bell tower was built in 1822. It consists of a square stone substructure, a pyramidal wooden superstructure, a bell chamber with baffled openings and a spire. There are similar bell towers in Hinnaard and Hartwerd.
The Greonterp bell tower was built in 1822. It consists of a square stone substructure, a pyramidal wooden superstructure, a bell chamber with baffled openings and a spire. Bell towers of this kind are also referred to as a ‘klokhuis’, which literally means a ‘bell house’. There are similar bell towers in Hinnaard and Hartwerd. The Greonterp bell tower was extensively restored in 1999. In December 2018, the interior was refurbished and now includes panels that show the history of the bell tower, photos of the surrounding area and two famous poems by Gerard Reve: Graf te Blauwhuis and Eind Goed, al Goed.
