Jopie Huisman Museum, Workum

In Nachtvondst, the work of Jopie Huisman enters into dialogue with contemporary art. Eight artists from the Netherlands and abroad show through painting, photography, video, light, installations and music how they experience the night.

The exhibition Nachtvondst brings together three nocturnal works by Jopie Huisman and work by eight contemporary artists from the Netherlands and abroad. Hans Op de Beeck, Stephen Gill, Aalt van de Glind, Pia Paulina Guilmoth, Elia Kalogianni, Sarah Neutkens, Sjoerd Tegelaers and Zalán Szakács show how the night can offer space for tranquillity, connection and observation.

The exhibition includes painting, photography, video, light art, installations and music. Especially for Nachtvondst, Sarah Neutkens has created a composition that connects the different works. Zalán Szakács has created a light installation inspired by Jopie Huisman’s work Self Portrait as an Eel Trap Fisherman.

The exhibition also features several firsts. American photographer Pia Paulina Guilmoth makes her Dutch museum debut and the large watercolour Moon and Stars by Hans Op de Beeck is being shown in a museum for the first time.

Nachtvondst can be visited at the Jopie Huisman Museum in Workum from 20 November 2026 to 29 March 2027.
