This year marks 475 years since the ‘lords’ of the peatlands signed the founding charter of the Schoterlandse Veencompagnie: the birth of Heerenveen! To celebrate this, on Saturday, October 17, we will travel by vintage bus through nearly 5 centuries of Heerenveen and the surrounding area, passing by the most beautiful stories and places along the way.
We will showcase the contrasts between rich and poor, how people lived, how Heerenveen developed as the main center of peat extraction in Friesland, and how people dedicated themselves to improving living conditions. We will visit special places and experience the locations where the old peat-digger past is still visible. Naturally, fun anecdotes will not be missing!
We will enjoy coffee and tea with a treat at Museum Heerenveen. There, we will also admire one of the largest city scale models in the Netherlands; the Heerenveen of 1830 will be brought to life with stories, images, and sound. The starting point is the National Public Transport Museum in Ouwsterhaule, on the edge of the peat bogs that were managed from Heerenveen. Incidentally, you are welcome to visit this museum free of charge before departure.
We depart by vintage bus at 1:00 PM and hope to be back around 5:30 PM.
The cost is €29.95 per person, including the bus tour, stories and special places along the way, coffee/tea with a treat, and admission to Museum Heerenveen.
The tour will take place with a minimum of 15 participants.

Important to know
Please arrive at the vintage bus fifteen minutes in advance so you can find a seat at your leisure. The guide and driver will be waiting for you there. The bus departs promptly at 1:00 PM.
In chilly weather: please bear in mind that while the transport is in a beautiful vintage bus, it is not heated using modern heating methods.
You can purchase a ticket until October 16, 6:00 PM. The tour will proceed if there are at least 15 registrations. You will be notified of this by email no later than 7:00 PM on October 16.

Guest safety is paramount. In the event of irresponsible weather conditions, the trip may be rescheduled (for example, in case of dangerous icy conditions, code orange, or red). The tickets will then remain valid for a replacement date. You will be informed of this by email as soon as possible.
