Sail along for an afternoon on an old-fashioned wooden fishing vessel, the last Blazer in the Netherlands, named the TX33 ‘Poolster’. 90 m² of brown sail will take you to the IJsselmeer, where you will hear stories about the old fishing industry. This beautiful ship was built in 1918 at the ‘De Hoop’ shipyard of Ulbe Zwolman in Workum, commissioned by fisherman Cornelis Drijver from Texel. The TX33 is owned by the Stichting Behoud Blazer TX33 (Foundation for the Preservation of the Blazer TX33) and is run entirely by volunteers. The financial proceeds go entirely towards the maintenance of the TX33.
Safety: the organization pays close attention to the safety of the ship and those on board. The required statutory safety equipment (life jackets, fire extinguishers, and emergency pumps) is on board. The rigging and specific parts of the ship (mast, boom, and gaff) are regularly inspected. The vessel is sailed with a certified skipper; the crew is trained annually.
Location
The ship is moored at the jetty next to the lock in Makkum. Address: Workumerdijk 1, 8754 EZ, Makkum. You can park for free at the roundabout next to the harbor in the parking lot (Suderseewei / Workumerdijk). It is just under a 10-minute walk to the ship.
Important to know
Please arrive 15 minutes in advance. There is only a very basic toilet on board. The Harbour Building does have a standard toilet. We advise you to bring a cap, windbreaker, and extra clothing. Children are required to wear a life jacket. The minimum age is 6 years. If the trip is cancelled due to bad weather (the skipper will decide on this at 12:00), you will receive a refund.
