Trees, tombstones and the belfry were completely destroyed. Three of the ten crew members survived the disaster. The seven crew members who died in an accident were first buried in the general cemetery in Bakhuizen. Later, the seven crew members were reburied in America and one in the American cemetery in Margraten.
