Interactive treasure hunt for children aged around 6 to 8 through the Elfbergen forest in Gaasterland.

Search for hidden wooden woodpeckers in the trees of the Elfbergen forest and learn more about these birds. Each woodpecker has its own activity, which you can find in the activity booklet. The Woodpecker Trail backpack contains various materials you need to complete the activities. You will measure a woodpecker’s nest and trees and search for small creatures. You will also learn about the woodpecker’s natural enemies and much more. The walk along the Woodpecker Trail takes about 1.5 hours and is suitable for children aged 6 to 8.

The booklet including the loan of a backpack is available from Mar & Klif Visitor Centre in Oudemirdum. Please check the visitor centre’s opening hours before you go. You can find more information about the booklet here. The cost is €4. A refundable deposit is also required for the backpack. One backpack is provided for every 4 to 5 children. You will receive the deposit back when you return the backpack. At the visitor centre, they can tell you exactly where the Woodpecker Trail starts and how to get there.
