Sneekweek is the ultimate summer festival for water sports enthusiasts and partygoers. For an entire week, Sneek is all about spectacular sailing races, vibrant festivities and countless activities for all ages. During the day, enjoy the races on the Sneekermeer. In the evening, the city comes alive with music squares and celebrations.
Opening with Fleet Review
Sneekweek traditionally starts on the first Saturday of August. The festivities begin on Friday evening with the official opening and the fleet review. During this ceremony, the ‘Boat of the Year’ and the ‘Skipper in the Order of the Sneeker Pan’ are presented, while dozens of beautifully illuminated boats sail through the canals.
Sailing Races: Sport and Atmosphere
Sneekweek is Europe’s largest inland sailing event. Sailors from recognised classes compete on the Sneekermeer, with the Starteiland as the vibrant centre. Take the ferry to the island and experience the racing atmosphere up close.
Celebration in the City
After a day on the water, the festivities move to the city centre. Spread across several music squares, live performances in various styles set the tone. Cafés also provide music and entertainment.
Street Theatre & Children’s Activities
During Sneekweek, Sneek turns into one large stage. Street theatre acts from home and abroad provide surprising entertainment. Children can enjoy the special Sneekweek children’s afternoon filled with games and fun.
Sneekweek Fair
From Friday evening through Thursday, the Sneekweek fair takes place at Martiniplein. Thrilling rides and classic attractions offer fun for everyone.
Water Sports & Fun
Water fun is at the heart of Sneekweek. Join the rubber boat race through Sneek’s canals or explore the city from the water during a relaxed SUP tour.
Hardzeildag Market
On Wednesday, the city centre transforms into a large open-air shopping event. Stroll along the Hardzeildag market and discover clothing, accessories, regional products and more.
