Nannewiid

Rottum

Together with the Douwe Pôlle and the Lytse Wiid, the Nannewiid is a valuable nature reserve.

Together with the Douwe Pôlle and the Lytse Wiid, the Nannewiid is a valuable nature reserve. It was originally a swampy wilderness. It changed when the peat diggers of Giethoorn cut peat here. The Nannewiid is one of the few remaining peat lakes. In addition to open water, you will find fringes of reeds, carrs, and reed beds. And in the bog moss on the west side, marsh violets, bog cotton, and meadow thistles grow, among other plants. The nature attracts many birds to breed here, such as the marsh harrier and hawk, but also the golden oriole, grasshopper warbler, Savi’s warbler, and even the nightingale. In addition, many species of fish live here.

Here you will find Nannewiid
